During Pregnancy: your visit/care schedule

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

This schedule of visits is a guide only. Your actual schedule will depend on your personal circumstance and may be altered as your pregnancy progresses.

You will have an ultrasound at each visit and a general physical check, including checking your blood pressure.

Please call us soon as you are aware of your pregnancy as some hospitals have limited appointments available. Dr Shalini Dewan has private appointments at Knox Private, Waverley Private and Mitcham Private hospitals.

If you have any concerns or questions outside of your scheduled visits, please do not hesitate to call the clinic. Shalini is available to assist with your queries.

8-10 weeks – At your first visit you will have an ultrasound to meet your baby, please ensure you have a full bladder. We recommend drinking four glasses of water at least an hour before your appointment without emptying your bladder.

Shalini will review your medical history as well as discuss the routine tests and answer any questions you may have.

12-weeks – Perform ultrasound and general physical. Discuss previous test results and what further tests need to be undertaken, including options for Down Syndrome screening and testing:

  • 1st trimester combined screening
  • 2nd trimester maternal serum screening
  • Non-Invasive Prenatal Test (NIPT)

16 weeks – Perform ultrasound and general physical examination. Discuss results of combined Maternal Serum Screening if applicable

18-20 weeks – General check-up and physical examination, including ultrasound. Shalini will refer you for a Morphology Scan. This is a routine ultrasound, it takes a close look at your baby, checking that they are developing normally and will also check the position and function of the placenta.

If you do not wish to know the gender of your baby, please inform the sonographer prior to the ultrasound.

24 weeks –General check-up and ultrasound, Shalini will discuss with you the results of your Morphology Scan. You will also be refereed for a Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT), full blood examination and Rhesus Antibodies if (Rh Negative). Shalini will discuss the tests with you, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

From the 28th week of pregnancy you are in your third trimester of pregnancy.

In addition to the regular check-ups and physical examinations, Shalini will discuss your labour and delivery, including your personal preferences for the birth such as caesarean section and pain relief options.

28 weeks –Results of the GTT will be discussed and anti-D given if indicated necessary by the blood test results. You will also have a general check-up, physical examination and ultrasound

30 weeks–  General check-up, physical examination and ultrasound. Discuss labour and delivery preferences, please raise any questions and concerns you may have.

32 weeks –  General check-up, physical examination and ultrasound. Discuss labour and delivery preferences, please raise any questions and concerns you may have.

34 weeks – General check-up, physical examination and ultrasound. Discuss labour and delivery preferences, please raise any questions and concerns you may have. Repeat anti-D if indicated.

36 weeks –  From 36 weeks, Shalini will schedule weekly appointments with you up until the birth of your baby. At each appointment, you will have a general check-up, physical examination and ultrasound. Shalini will continue to discuss labour and delivery preferences, and answer any questions and concerns you may have.
