Chronic Pelvic Pain
Chronic pelvic pain is an ongoing pain in lower abdomen and pelvis.
This can be debilitating and affect daily activity. There are many possible causes of CPP. These include gynaecological causes like:
- Endometriosis
- PID (Pelvic inflammatory disease)
- Ovarian cysts
Pain can sometimes be referred from surround organs like bowel, urinary tract, muscles, etc.
To find a cause you will be asked a full medical history. You will have a full general physical examination and a pelvic examination.
You may need diagnostic tests like pelvic ultrasound, CT scan or x-ray.
A laparoscopy may sometimes be needed to diagnose conditions such as endometriosis, adhesions or chronic pelvic infection.
Surgery to treat the problem may be performed during the same procedure.
Complimentary therapies like pain killers, oral contraceptive pill, diet and lifestyle changes may be recommended.
